$2,000 in Fines for Lake Nipissing Walleye Fishing Offences

Two North Bay-area men were fined a total of $2,000 for fishing offences.

Henri Petri of Powassan and Shaun Frederick of North Bay pleaded guilty and were each fined $750 for jointly possessing five walleye over the allowable conservation limit. They were each also fined $250 for packaging g fish in a way that the fish could not easily be identified.

Court heard that on January 15, 2015, a conservation officer on duty on Lake Nipissing received a complaint that individuals were catching and keeping undersized walleye.

The officer located the suspect’s vehicle and ice fishing shack in South Bay of Lake Nipissing. Officers on shore inspected Petri and Frederick, who told the officers they had been fishing but had not caught any fish. Further investigation revealed a bag of 14 skinned walleye fillets.

Justice of the Peace Ruby Beck heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, North Bay, on May 20, 2015.
