A Cobalt man has been fined $1050 for offences under the Public Lands Act.

Bryant Galliott pleaded guilty and was fined $300 for disobeying a notice and $750 for depositing material on public lands.

Court heard that on August 8, 2017, a conservation officer received a complaint about a recreational vehicle (RV) parked illegally at the Mowat Landing access point to the Montreal River and Lady Evelyn Lake near Haileybury. In the area in question, signs were clearly posted indicating that parking was not allowed, to facilitate the launching of boats.

The officer contacted Galliott and advised him that he could not camp at the location, and asked him to move to an appropriate camping spot. After the officer left, the officer received another complaint that Galliott had dumped the contents of his sewage holding tank in the parking area before leaving.

Justice of the Peace Theodore Hodgins heard the case on September 7, 2017 in the Ontario Court of Justice, Haileybury.
