Young people are learning about Ontario’s fish species, their habitats and conservation measures that protect them through the Ontario government’s 11th Annual Kids’ Fish Art Contest.

This year’s winners, announced at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show, are:

Catherine Chen from Toronto: overall winner and winner for the grade 7 to 9 category
Yuk Ki Wong from Toronto: winner of the grade 10 to 12 category
Faith Chiu from Thornhill: winner of the grade 4 to 6 category

Each of the winners will have their art featured on three different versions of the 2014 Young Angler’s Licence, a free fishing licence for youth under the age of 18.

Each winner receives classroom supplies donated by Staedtler-Mars and a complete set of fishing gear donated by Lucky Strike Bait Works.

For being the overall winner, Catherine also receives a four-day fishing excursion provided by Pine Portage Lodge and a day of fishing with Canadian Sportfishing television show host Italo Labignan.

Three-hundred and seventy young people entered this year’s Kids’ Fish Art Contest. The contest is open to Ontario students in grades 4 to 12.
The largemouth bass, featured in this year’s drawings, ranges from southern Ontario through the lower Great Lakes, with some populations in northwestern Ontario.
