$5,500 in fines ordered for illegal hunt

Two American hunters and their Canadian guide have been fined a total of $5,500 for an illegal moose hunt.

Testimony in Dryden Court of Justice last month revealed that on Oct. 16, 2014, conservation officers contacted the men during a routine patrol on Lac Seul. They learned that Clarence Thomas of Whitefish Bay had been contracted by Lon Danielson of Stuart Fla., and Gordon Macdonald, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., to be their moose hunting guide.

Thomas had driven the two men by motorboat to Aldous Bay in Lac Seul the day before. When the they saw a moose onshore, Thomas told the hunters to shoot it and Danielson did, court was told.

Danielson and Macdonald were found to have provided false information to officers, saying they were onshore when the moose was shot.
