Business Fined for Attempted Commercial Sale of Muskellunge
A business in Southern Ontario has been fined a total of $2,000 for violating the rules of commercial fish sales:
P&T Seafood Limited, based in Newmarket, pleaded guilty to attempting to sell an angler-caught muskellunge and was fined $2,000.
The Ontario Court of Justice heard that on April 24, 2025, the ministry received a tip concerning P&T Seafood Limited’s offering of a 30-inch muskellunge for sale. A conservation officer investigated and found evidence that the muskellunge was caught by angling methods and confirmed it was being sold by P&T Seafood Limited. The store was unable to provide documentation demonstrating the origin of the muskellunge. In Ontario, muskellunge is a highly regulated sport fish, and the commercial sale of any fish caught by anglers is prohibited.
Justice of the Peace Sydney Thomas heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Newmarket, on September 25, 2025.
