MUSKOKA — Partial funding from the province for floodplain mapping isn’t good enough, according to the Muskoka Lakes Association.
Robert Ensor, association president, wrote to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry after the province announced it would offer $450,000 in matching funds to the District of Muskoka for floodplain mapping in the region, urging it to provide funding in full for the project.
“Given that the province has responsibility for hazard management in the Muskoka area, we believe that the province should contribute the matching funds,” stated Ensor.
He said the association, which “cannot make more than a token contribution,” had worked with the district for the past two years to address damaging spring floods.
