(MATHESON, ON) – Officers with the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a bear attack at Watabeag Lake on July 24, 2015 at 12:56 p.m.
Two women were walking in the cottage area of Watabeag Lake when they encountered an aggressive bear.
One of the women was attacked by the bear and sustained injury requiring medical treatment at a local area hospital. The other female party was unharmed.
OPP officers attended the area and located the bear.
The bear displayed aggressive tendencies toward the officers and was therefore dispatched by officers for public safety.
The victim, a 60 year woman from Guelph, Ontario, has since been released from hospital.
